Adding Claude to your Chrome browser
After this, you'll have Claude available as a Chrome extension so you can use it on any webpage without switching tabs.
Install the extension
The extension is built and tested for Google Chrome, but any Chromium-based browser (Microsoft Edge, Brave, Opera, Vivaldi) can install it from the Chrome Web Store the same way. Anthropic only officially supports Chrome, so if something misbehaves in another browser, try Chrome first.
- 1 Open the Chrome Web Store listing
Go to the Claude extension page in the Chrome Web Store: Claude - Chrome Web Store. Make sure you're using Google Chrome (the extension won't work in Safari or Firefox).
- 2 Click "Add to Chrome"
Click the Add to Chrome button on the right side of the page. A popup will appear asking you to confirm the permissions the extension needs. Click Add extension to confirm.
What permissions does it need? The extension asks for standard permissions to read page content so it can help you summarize, analyze, or interact with whatever you're looking at. This is normal for AI assistant extensions.
- 3 Pin the extension to your toolbar
After installing, click the puzzle piece icon in the top-right corner of Chrome. Find Claude in the dropdown and click the pin icon next to it. This keeps the Claude icon visible in your toolbar so you can open it with one click.
Where to find the pin optionChrome toolbar › Puzzle piece icon › Pin Claude - 4 Sign in to your Claude account
Click the Claude icon in your toolbar. It will open a side panel or popup asking you to sign in. Use the same account you use for claude.ai. If you don't have one yet, you can create an account from here.
- 5 Start using Claude on any page
Once signed in, click the Claude icon on any webpage to open it. You can ask it questions about the page you're on, have it summarize articles, help you draft replies, or use it as a general assistant without leaving your current tab.
